Dupe this Look: Nicki Minaj

Mac has done it again and released another fantastic celebrity Viva Glam campaign. Viva Glam Nicki hit stores February 16 and what better way to homage to an artist with such wacky style then to dupe her colorful look? I love that Nicki Minaj isn't afraid to play with color, and if I had her gorgeous skin I would be fearless with makeup too! To dupe this look, I pulled out my most colorful palette- the Pop Beauty Neon palette. After priming my eye, I patted on the neon green all over my lid and then blended MAC's Velvet Moss eyeshadow very far into the crease. I added shimmery Inglot shadow in 395 right under my browbone. To get that rich blue under my eyes, I ran NYX jumbo pencil in Cobalt under my eye and powdered with a teal blue Lorac shadow from my Lorac shadow box. I used my favorite Miss Ardo lashes in #5 matched with MAC's Chromaline in Black Black eyeliner with a heavy wing. No Nicki look is complete without her signature Grey enlarging contacts. The rest of the look is simple, using MAC Ambering Rose on the hallows of my cheek and of course, Viva Glam Nicki on my lips.

Viva Glam Nicki is a warmer, vibrant pink. Viva Glam Gaga is a lot cooler, and more blue-based and MAC's Pink Noveau is a tad more violet. The texture is creamy and the color is quite opaque. The pink doesn't lean too cool/warm so it will look fabulous on almost every skintone. Retailing at about $14.50, Viva Glam Nicki will be in stores until February 16, 2013 and all proceeds with benefit the MAC AIDS Fund. Bottom Line? Beauty Dupe Battle: Urban Decay Perversion Vs. MAC's Feline

If you're anything like me, black eyeliner is a must and coming across a really good eyeliner is like hitting the jackpot. I've been a long time fan of MAC's eye kohl in Feline, the smooth and creamy black eyeliner pencil. The only problem? It's a limited edition item and is far superior in quality when compared to its smudgey, messy permanent sister MAC's Smolder. It's been repromoted a few times and every time it is, I stock up. It was hard to find an eyeliner as black and creamy with that kind of staying power... UNTIL NOW. Enter Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion. First introduced as apart of Urban Decay's Anniversary Eyeliner Set, the folks over at UD decided to release it individually and introduce it as a PERMANENT item. I have never come across a blacker eyeliner than this! The surprising thing about this eyeliner is its staying power. As creamy as it is, I was expecting it to smear and smudge but as the day wore on, Perversion stood strong on my waterline! So how do the two eyeliners stack up? 

• Pigmentation: Both eyeliners are as black as they come, but Perversion goes on a few shades darker. Winner: Perversion
• Price: Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils retail for about $19 while MAC's Eye Kohls go for about $15. Winner: Feline
• Staying Power: Feline gives a solid 4-5 hours of weartime on me, but tends to get smudgey as the hours pass. Perversion will give me around the same amount of weartime (4-5 hours) but stays put. Winner: Perversion.
• Availability: Though Feline is often repromoted, Perversion is permanent. Winner: Perversion.
• Packaging: Both designs are your basic black pencil, but MAC's .05 oz has a leg up on Urban Decay's .04 oz. Winner: Feline

Buzzworthy: Shop MAC Cook MAC for Spring 2012

This last Tuesday, I was treated to a preview of MAC's Spring 2012 line, Shop MAC Cook MAC (Shop Shop Shop Cook Cook Cook), before it's released to the public on February 16. The collection is mostly made up of limited edition and repromotes consisting of lipsticks, Kissable lipcolour, Cremeblend blushes, eyeshadow quads, Fluidlines, Tendertones, and nail polishes. I missed out on the amazing cremeblend blushes released with MAC in Lillyland, Optimistic Orange and Florida so I took the opportunity and snatched them while they were available in Shop Mac Cook Mac. These reformulated cremeblend blushes go on like a dream- rich in color and creamy in consistency. Optimistic Orange and Florida are a little intimidating in the pan, but both colors go on beautifully if you use your fingers or a stippling brush. What I also love about these two colors is their versatility- you can use these blushes as a blush, a nice colorful base or a vibrant lipcolor. I love these blushes and highly recommend you try these out! Both Watch Me Simmer and Quick Sizzle were SOLD OUT by the time i was able to get to the counter, but I did snag Kissable Lipcolor in Woo Me, a lovely matte nude. The consistency of the Kissable lipcolor is that of a liquid lipstick and the wear time I get on these is fantastic (a good 4-5 hours!). I also love the tiny hint of pink in this nude to prevent it from looking like concealer lip! Dupe this Look: Jessica Szohr (New Years Eve Edition)

I would be lying if I said I missed Vanessa Abrahms on Gossip Girl, but I'll be damned if her alter ego, Jessica Szohr, isn't an all out smokeshow! The former Gossip Girl actress was the inspiration for my New Years Eve party look with her aqua blue smokey eye and liner. Even peaking out from behind her messy firnge, those eyes are piercing! I started with my usual primers (Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Nyx Black Bean Jumbo pencil) and patted Urban Decay's Deep End eyeshadow onto the lids. Using my MAC 217 brush, I blended out Urban Decay's Ace in the corner and out v of my eye (on top of Black Bean) and Urban Decay's Half Truth in the crease. I  lined my entire eye with Clinique Cream Liner in black  and just like Szohr's smokey eye, swiped on Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Air Guitar under my lower lashline to create a dramatic blue outline. Who doesn't want to sparkle during the holidays, right? I found the fluffiest, most lush lashes I could get my hands on (Miss Ardo falsies in 100) and finished my look with a nude blush ( Rock and Republic's Foreplay) and nude lipstick (MAC's Bare Again Sheen Supreme lipstick). The aqua blues and violets would look exceptionally beautiful on girls with blue/grey eyes like Jessica's. What did you rock this New Years Eve? Leave your thoughts in the comments. 

Buzzworthy: Daphne Guinness for MAC & Tour De Fabulous

Kicking off my Christmas haul are the MAC holiday pieces I picked up. Daphne Guinness for MAC and Tour De Fabulous hit MAC counters on December 26. Fashion icon and socialite Daphne Guinness put her hand in the makeup world by collaborating with MAC for their winter collection. The hues are mostly deep berries and plums perfect for the cold weather season. Most of the items were limited edition with a few repromotes thrown into the mix. You might recognize the two blush ombres from the Spring Colour Forecast in the spring of 2010. While both Azalea Blossom and Vintage Grape caught my eye, I had to get my hands on Vintage Grape because I own nothing like it! Vintage Grape (retailing at $26) is a deep violet blush swirled with pink. When you mix the colors together, you get a lovely and vibrant wine color. This is a very pigmented blush so fair toned girls will want to use a stippling brush and build the color to their liking. Bottom Line? If  you didn't get it the first time, now's your chance to own this gorgeous blush!

I've always been drawn to a bright pink pout so I grabbed Style Packed lipglass ($14.50) and Embrace Me  lipliner ($14) from Tour De Fabulous. If any of you honey bees own Nars Schiap or Funny Face, MAC's Girl About Town or Spitfire, Milani's Rose Hip, or any fuschia lipstick Embrace Me is essential for you. This is exactly the lipliner that MAC has been needing in its arsenal. They'd be foolish to not make this a permanent. Style Packed is a very blue based pink lipglass that Barbie would approve of. This would look great layered ontop of your favorite lipsticks, or worn alone for a sheer but bright pop of pink. Dupe this Look: Jennifer Lopez

This picture of Jennifer Lopez has been circulating the makeup boards for years now. The beautiful green smokey eye served as my inspiration for a night out on the town with my girls. Jennifer's olive skin and brown eyes are really complimented by the earthy green tones. I started with dusting Nars Wicked eyeshadow all over my lid. Then, using my MAC 239, I patted on MAC's Sweet and Punchy on the lid and inner corner of my eyes. Then I blended MAC's Humid into the outer corners of my eyes, and topped it off with  MAC's Green Smoke right in the crease. I also blended a little bit of Humid underneath my lower lashline to really achieve a smokey look. I topped it off with a set of Miss Ardo's #20 false eyelashes and MAC's Blacktrack fluidline in a cat eye shape. Sticking to Jennifer's glowy look, I used Lorac's baked blush in Hollywood and kept my lips nude with MAC's Peachstock with Chantecaille's Charm lipgloss on top. Dupe this Look: Kourtney Kardashian

I know there has been a lot of hoopla around that other, more famous Kardashian but I thought I'd stick to Kourtney as an inspiration after a friend of mine, Roxanne, had asked me to do a smokey eye with a red lip. Kourtney's super smokey eye paired with a deep red lip is very dramatic. Roxanne will be attending a wedding in a royal blue dress and I thought the red lip would be a nice and sophisticated pair for the dress. I started her smokey eye with my NYX Jumbo pencil in Black Bean for a base and patted on MAC's Satin Taupe onto the lid. For the crease color I used MAC's Smut and Carbon for the outer V. I lined Roxanne's entire eye with MAC's Blacktrack fluidline and since she opted to skip the falsies for tonight, I finished with a coat of L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. To contour her cheeks, I swept MAC's Raizin onto the upper cheekbones and added MAC's highlighter Light Flush to her temples, across her forehead and down the bridge of her nose. Faces by the Honey B: Halloween Peacock

This year for Halloween, I decided to ruffle some tail feathers and dress as a peacock. Of course, this called for me to do an elaborate bird look for the evening. Armed with my favorite golds, greens and blues,  I went to work on my bird eyes. I started with the gold pigment from my MAC Surf Baby Surf the Ocean stack. For the green in the inner crease of my eye, I used my Sugar Pill Midori eyeshadow and patted After Party in the outer crease of my eye. I took Urban Decay's Flash and blended it into the brow bone along with Urban Decay's Midnight 15. Using my NYX Milk jumbo pencil, I drew white dots to mimik the pattern of feathers around my eyes. After letting my eyeshadow set, I drew on Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter liner in Metal Head on top of Flash eyeshadow and Air Guitar on my lower lashline. I extended my MAC Blacktrack Fluid line up as far as i could wing and also drawing an inner wing in the inner corner of my eye to create a birdlike effect. I then added Miss Ardo lashes in #112.  I bronzed my cheeks with MAC's Refined Golden Bronze and added Rock and Republic's Kinky on the apples of my cheek. Keeping the lips simple, I put on Nars nude lippy, Pago Pago and finished my look by gluing on some craft feathers with Ardell's eyelash glue.  Just to add an extra peacocky feel, I put on amber contacts to make my eyes pop. Faces by the Honey B: Halloween Mermaid

It's that time of year again!!! With Halloween rapidly approaching, the beautiful Lizette had asked me to do a mermaid look for a costume party she was attending. When I think of mermaids, I tend to think of deep greens and blues. I wanted to create a very wet look for Lizette's mermaid makeup so I stuck to shimmers and sparkly eyeshadows. I primed her eyelid with Pixi eye primer, and added MAC's Vex all over her lid, applying it the darkest in the brow bone. I then took Cargo's Green Bay lime green eyeshadow and applied it to the inner corner of her lid and near the tear ducts. I put Urban Decay's Kiddie Pool, a turquoise shimmery blue, on her lid and brought Urban Decay's Flash in on the crease and outer V. To really reinforce the purple color, I added MAC's Parfait Armor over Flash. I did a simple black winged eyeliner line with MAC's Blacktrack Fluid line and applied very pointy, thick falsies on both bottom and top lashlines. I applied MAC's Light Flush Highlighter all over her cheekbones, T-zone and bridge of her nose and applied My Paradise onto the apples of her cheeks. To finish the look, I added MAC's Cremesheen lipgloss in Fashion Scoop for a wet look. Apply a small layer of Wet 'N' Wild's white glitter down the temples to your cheeks for an extra scaley look. Fall Trend: Matte Red Lips

Emma Watson & Sienna Miller

I can't help but notice the omnipresence of matte red lips on celebrities this fall. The look is sophisticated and polished while the matte texture makes it a bit edgy and different from your average red lip. Pictured left on Emma Watson (girl crush alert!) and Sienna Miller, the look is bold without being garish. Shop your stash, ladies, for one of the hardest working lipsticks in the business, MAC's Ruby Woo. This lipstick is true red with slightly cool undertones and absolutely no sheen. If it looks familiar, it's because Ruby Woo is known for being Gwen Stefani's go-to retro lipstick. Be sure to prime your lips before using this. Wearing a lipliner helps to keep the lipstick from feathering as well. I like to use MAC Brick lipliner to make it a bit deeper (like Emma's). You don't  need to fuss with heavy eye shadow or blush with this look. Keep it simple and make the lips make the statement. Dupe this Look: Nicole Richie

I loved this Mod 60's inspired look Nicole Richie rocked on the Oscar's red carpet in 2010. If anyone knows mod inspired style, it's Ms. Richie. The twist on this version of the smokey eye is the great little wing at the end. It really draws a nice line from your eyes to accentuate that sexy feline look. I started by separating my eyelids in half by drawing a black curved line with an angled brush and MAC's Carbon eyeshadow. Next, I patted the lower lid with Sugar Pill's Tako eyeshadow and blended it in an upwards sweeping motion. With my trusty MAC 266, I blended the Carbon line I drew with more black eyeshadow pulling upwards as well. A thick black  line of cream eyeliner is key to this look. I used MAC's Fluidline gel eyeliner in Blacktrack. Don't to wing it out at the end as well. The rest of my look is fairly simple, using Rock and Republic's Foreplay blush and MAC's Angel on my lips, topped off with Chanel's Insolence lipgloss on top. And of course, no Mod look is complete without a dramatic set of false eyelashes (mine are Miss Adoro #5- my current favorite!). Below is my Nicole Richie inspired look. Buzzworthy: MAC Seasonally Supreme Sheen Lipstick in Fashion City

I've been sitting on this little gem for a while now and decided to share this delightful lipstick with all of you. MAC's Seasonally Supreme Sheen lipsticks came out a few weeks back and I picked up this baby immediately after seeing swatches of it online. Fashion City is what I would consider a true peach lipstick. The lipstick is a frost finish with strong and beautiful pigmentation. Fashion City goes on so creamy and slick it really makes your lips look soft and lush! Fashion City would really look great on my girls out there with warmer skin tones that lean towards medium and dark shades. Although the lipstick does not get a particularly long weartime, I dont really mind that because that's not the point of these, is it? (I leave that to the longwear lipcremes!) Moisturizing, pretty and shiny, Fashion City takes its place along with the other Supreme Sheen lipsticks which are THANKFULLY apart of the permanent line. Along with Bare Again, this is absolutely a must-have lipstick for me! Bottom Line? Medium to darker toned girls who pull more warm would look amazing in this!!! Shop Your Stash: MAC's Up the Amp Lipstick

I happened to come across another oldie but goody while shopping my stash the other night. MAC's Up the Amp lipstick has been a favorite of MAC lovers and beauty bloggers for so long that I almost forgot what a beautiful shade it was. A flawlessly blended combination of lilac and pink, Up the Amp really lights up any face that so chooses to wear it. The best part of this lipstick? It looks just as gorgeous on fair skinned ladies as it does on women of color. The lipstick is an Amplified finish and has been a classic standout shade in MAC's permanent lipstick line. It's creamy and soft and hydrates the lips beautifully. If you are looking for a bold color that will keep your look soft and feminine, shop your stash for this beauty classic! Buzzworthy: MAC's 226 Blending Brush

Ah, the 226 brush, or as I like to call it- the things legends are made of. Typical MAC (and their sneaky ways) have managed to create such a versatile, highly effective crease blending brush only to make it limited edition. Why do they always do this with their best stuff? The 226 is a densely packed, tapered blending brush which has been repromoted with MAC's Summer 2011 collection, MAC Me Over. Far more tapered than the 217 and a lot shorter than the 224 ( all three pictured below together), the 226 is also packed a little less tight than the 219 pencil brush. This brush is ideal for girls with smaller eyes, hooded lids, or anyone who thinks the 217 takes eyeshadow too far past the crease of their eye. The quality of this brush is that like any other MAC brush- excellent color pickup, very minimum to zero shedding and soft luxurious bristle hairs to boot. The brush retails at a mere $24.50 but grab it while you can as this bad boy is flying off the shelves! COME ON, MAC! Make this a permanent already! Did you pick up the 226 this weekend? Jenni Farley, Demi Lovato

Sparkle! Sparkle! Sparkle! was the trend of the night at last night MTV VMAs. The black carpet was bombarded with glitz and glitter everywhere from Britney's black sequined romper to the on trend metallic makeup, as seen on Demi Lovato and Jenni "JWOWW" Farley. I decided to do a take on this heavy metal makeup look that was omnipresent at last night's VMAs. With a lot of help from my Makeup Forever Rock Forever palette, I created this look starting with the 07 white in the inner corner of my eyes and 82 silver on my lids. I patted some silver pigment from my MAC Surf Baby Surf the Ocean pigments on top for an extra punch of silver. I used the glittery 307 black from my Rock Forever palette and extended my Blacktrack fluidline eyeliner past my eye on both bottom and top lashlines while filling in the space with the white 07. To finish the eye look I used Ardell lashes in 79 on the top and cut one false lash strip into two for my bottom lashes. I kept the rest of the look clean and nude with MAC's Darkly My Dear blush and Buoy-o-Bouy lipstick. What was your favorite look at the VMAs? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Weekend Haul: Vegas Edition

I love Las Vegas. The best part about the drive up to Vegas from Southern California is the CCO. I can always find something to buy at a CCO! Though there have been times when I've heavy duty hauled at a CCO, this was just a mini haul and I only came back with a few things. I could not turn down the $13 MAC Melon pigment that I was lucky enough to find at the Stateline CCO. I love this pigment, as it is the most gorgeous peach with hints of gold undertones. You hardly need any of the product on  your  brush for it to really stand out and the color looks different in any lighting. I also picked up MAC's Frankly Fresh lipglass from the Liberty of London collection. This was a great buy for me and this nude pink looks stunning on top of my other favorite product from that line, Peachstock lipstick. This lipglass feels less sticky than most MAC lipglasses, but I would not recommend this for gals with pigmented lips, as it is quite natural and sheer. Lastly, during my Vegas trip, I was finally able to check out Inglot Cosmetics. There is a freestanding store in the forum shops at Caesar's Palace where i picked up two 5 palette eyeshadows and one lipstick (Matte 418). The pigmentation of these products are amazing for the price. Each shadow was just $5 and the lipstick was a steal at $10. For $5, you get 2.7 grams of product versus MAC's $11.50 1.5 grams. You can't really beat this quality for that price. I am just in love with these shadows and can't wait to do a look with them! Picture below are swatches of my Inglot palettes and CCO goodies.

I've been so inspired by red carpet cutie Lea Michele lately. Not only does this girl have some stellar taste in evening gowns but her makeup is always perfection. I decided to dupe this smokey blue eyeshadow look she was sporting on the red carpet. I just love the way the blue eyeshadow looks on Lea's gorgeous brown eyes. I decided to break out my current obsession Sugarpill Cosmetics Sweetheart palette and used Tako in the inner corner and Afterparty in the crease. The pigmentation of Afterparty is downright amazing. This 4 palette eyeshadow quad from Sugarpill has me hungry for more shades from this brand! I pressed the blue black loose pigment from MAC's Surf Baby pigments that came with Surf the Ocean pigments and blended MAC"s Blanc Type onto the brow bone. I used Miss Ardo lashes in #5 for extra drama. To keep from looking like a clown, I had to keep the rest of my face simple. I opted for MAC's nude blush Garb on my cheeks and Viva Glam II with Nymphette lipglass on my lips. I wore this look with a black and white outfit for a pop of color but it works perfectly as a matching hue like Lea in the navy blue gown. Hopefully this look, like Lea, is red carpet worthy!

A few weeks ago, I was asked to do bridesmaids makeup for three lovely ladies attending a July wedding. Janet, Gaby and Rosie were in the wedding party of a good friend of theirs and each individually wanted a unique look for themselves. Janet wanted a gold and blue smokey eye to match their long navy and yellow dresses. I had a lot of fun using my MAC's Surf Baby pigments on her, especially the golden pigment on her lid. I blended in MAC's Meet the Fleet navy eyeshadow on the crease and Moonlight's Reflection in the inner corners of her eyes. I went pretty simple with the rest of her look using Rock and Republic's Seduce on her cheeks and MAC's Bombshell lipstick on her lips. Gaby is a light makeup wearer and did not want anything too dramatic or drastic. We kept the tones cool to match her auburn hair and neutral but smokey to bring out the warm brown in her eyes. I used pigments from MAC's Tartan Tale collection on the inner corners of her lids and blended in MAC's Satin Taupe and Smut to her crease and lid. I swept on Rock and Republic's Call Me on her cheeks and when she said she liked mauvey pink tones for lipstick, I broke out my go-to wedding lipstick, Viva Glam V. Rosie was our resident retro girl and wanted something that would make her look like a modern day pin-up. She also loves dramatic eyelashes so to interpret Rosie into a Dita Von Teese look-a-like, I used Urban Decay's Virgin all over the lid and Dark Horse shadow in the crease. The key essential to Rosie's look was a pin-perfect winged eyeliner, achieved with MAC's Blacktrack Fluidline and a steady yet dramatic hand. Top off her look with MAC's Springsheen blush and Heartless lipstick for a pin-up finish. Pictures are my three beautiful bridesmaids and their own uniquely sexy looks. Swatches LtoR: 1, 2, 5, Cyndi, Gaga, Gaga 2

The wonderful thing about MAC's long running Viva Glam campaign is its goal to make the world beautiful both inside and out. Established in 1994, the Viva Glam lipstick was created as a universally flattering red with every cent of the proceeds going to benefit the MAC AIDS Fund. Since then, MAC has spawned 8 more Viva Glam lipsticks, including one inspired by and collaborated with the iconic Cyndi Lauper and two with style pop star Lady Gaga. I have all Viva Glam lipsticks with the exception of 3, 4, and 6, and have decided to put up swatches and pictures of those in my stash. Of the 6 that I own, Viva Glam V (a nude pink lustre) is hands down my favorite. I've bought this tube of lipstick several times over and not only does it go down as my favorite Viva Glam lipstick but one of my favorite lipsticks ever. Viva Glam 1 is a matte brown red and really is universally flattering.  Viva Glam II, a satin beige pink that pulls very nude on my skintone, is much deeper/pinker/darker than VG Gaga 2- an amplified nude, and my least favorite. (It comes off as a tad bit like concealer lip.) VG Gaga (the first) however, a limited editon blue pink, is suprisingly more wearable and one of my favorites (though easily dupable). Lastly, there's VG Cyndi, another standout of the bunch as a limited edition coral red lustre. This is easily one of my favorite lipsticks, as it is a great starter red for those not used to wearing bold lipsticks and the color looks gorgeous on everyone. Buying a tube of lipstick is just a small donation we can contribute in MAC's plight to support men, women and children who suffer from AIDS. Look beautiful, feel beautiful.
